Welcome to Overglamper

Hi, I’m Bastian. I am converting a Land Rover Defender into a rolling home for exploring the wilderness and other exciting places on this beautiful planet. The project will be documented here from planning to execution, and I hope you will find a little inspiration and some takeaways for building your own camper van.

Why Overglamper? What does it mean?

Overglamper is simply the combination of the terms overlander and glamper. An overlander, according to Wikipedia, refers to a self-reliant overland traveler who is typically using an off-road vehicle to venture to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. By contrast, a glamper is a glamorous hipster camper. The challenge here is to build a camper van that embraces extreme off-road capabilities as well as a hip and cozy interior.

Purpose of this website

  1. Document the camper van conversion project from planning to execution.
  2. Evaluate how the finished rig ultimately performs in practice.
  3. Review equipment and parts used in the project, including tools or electronic gadgets.
  4. Share practical insights and goodies for your next trip, including destinations or music.
  5. Build a community of like-minded people for occasional meetups.

About the author

I’m based in Switzerland and over the years I have lived, worked or studied in a total of six countries on two continents. One could say that I’m a natural explorer who enjoys learning about new cultures and seeing different parts of the world. I also love to solve technical challenges. And as my dream to sail around the world on a yacht turned out to be too expensive, I believe that traveling in a sturdy off-road van would be the next best thing. My dream is to take Samson on a longer trip to Africa or the Americas one day.
